The Challenge: Worn-Out Bag Rolls Causing Wrinkles & Excessive Waste
Our customer uses top and bottom side bag rolls to provide traction and to evenly guide the substrate for producing square bottom bags. The knurled pattern on the rolls wore down over time causing uneven surfaces which resulted in wrinkles in the substrate, misregister printing, and produced excessive waste – all of which drained profitability. They needed a way to increase the longevity of their rolls.
The Solution: An Innovative Coating Design to Eliminate Premature Wear
Our engineering team went to work to analyze sample worn rolls provided by our customer. We tested various coating options and thicknesses to determine the best combinations to achieve high wear resistance and improved traction. The result was a custom formulated coating that more than doubled the lifespan of the rolls on multiple machines without any deviation in size.
